Piotr Skowroński is a filmmaker and media artist whose work bridges narrative cinema and visual art. Born in Szczecin, Poland and raised in Canada, he studied Film Production at Confederation College before establishing a career defined by his distinct visual style and emotionally grounded storytelling.
Rooted in an auteur approach, Piotr moves fluidly between writing, directing, cinematography, and editing - crafting films that blur the boundaries between realism and poetry. His character-driven stories often explore identity, memory, and human resilience, rendered with a painterly attention to image, tone, and rhythm.
Piotr’s body of work includes a number of award-winning shorts such as Cat and Mouse, Free Press, Undertow, and Garść Ziemi (A Handful of Soil). His debut feature These Lovers - an unconventional romantic drama about love, loss, and emotional rebirth—premiered at the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival and was selected for Telefilm’s Best of Canada showcase. His follow-up feature The Discarded confronts themes of debt, survival, and moral reckoning amid economic uncertainty.
In 2024, Piotr received the Outstanding Director – Short/Mid-Length award at the Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards for Bang Bang, a film that went on to receive international recognition for both cinematography and editing. Most recently, he wrote and directed the six-part series Phantom Line, produced with support from Bell Fibe TV1- marking one of the first major independent episodic productions filmed entirely in North Bay.
Whether through the lens of fiction, documentary, or experimental form, Piotr’s work remains devoted to the cinematic moment: the fragile intersection of image, emotion, and truth.
